Our Home Buyers Guide To Hospitals In Worcester

Worcestershire Royal Hospital is the flagship site of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, serving a population of more than 550,000 across Worcestershire and neighbouring counties. It was built under the private finance initiative and opened in 2002, replacing the old Worcester Royal Infirmary.

The hospital has around 500 beds and provides a full range of elective, non-elective, surgical, medical, women's and children's services, along with emergency care, stroke services, cardiac stenting and diagnostic and therapeutic services. Maternity, neonatology and inpatient paediatric care for the wider Trust area are centralised here. The state-of-the-art Worcestershire Oncology Centre, which opened in 2015, provides the county's radiotherapy services for cancer patients.

As with many acute hospitals, waiting times and capacity can vary — its most recent Care Quality Commission assessment rated the hospital "Requires Improvement" overall, though caring and effectiveness were both rated "Good."
