Wild Gloucestershire campaign launched to promote biodiversity

A campaign has been launched by Gloucestershire County Council to promote local biodiversity and encourage residents to make their gardens more wildlife-friendly.

The Wild Gloucestershire campaign, run by the council’s sustainability team, aims to encourage people to make changes to their green spaces so wildlife and biodiversity can thrive.

Whether you have a sunny windowsill or a large garden, the campaign gives residents plenty of ideas and tips on how to help support local biodiversity and wildlife from home.

Residents are being invited to make their gardens more wildlife-friendly by adding wildlife water stations, bug hotels and creating wild areas in the garden. They are also being encouraged to grow their own fruit and veg.

Cllr David Gray, cabinet member for environment and planning, said:

“I encourage residents to get involved in this campaign, by sowing wildflowers, growing their own food and making their gardens more wildlife-friendly and biodiverse.

"By working together, we can make a real difference to the local environment and create a Greener Gloucestershire.”

The campaign also aims to promote the fantastic 30 Days Wild project run by the Wildlife Trust, which encourages people to spend time in nature every day throughout June.

It will also link with the Gloucestershire Recycles composting campaign ‘Get Gloucestershire Composting’. The county council will be promoting discounted water butts from Get Composting for residents to purchase. This will help to reduce mains water usage and allow for sustainable watering of gardens to help improve biodiversity in the area.
